The pain is caused my nerves being pinched or deformed in some way. This cannot be caused by pain medication. I understand that back surgery is scarey, but it is his best chance. Without treatment, your brother could be paralized for life. A gap in his backbone allows for potential injury to the spinal column. I'm sure India has doctor's who could do this surgery, but US technology is statistically the best in the world. Please urge him to have this surgery!On a personal note, my step dad was shot in the cervical spine while in the military. He, too, underwent this surgery and although he has less strength than he did before he was shot, he can still walk, talk, and take care of himself. We are thankful for his doctor's everyday.

Do you know that people with Lupus need to stay out of the sun?!Have a read of a book written by an immunologist by the name of William Joel Meggs called "The Inflammation Cure" it is about PREVENTING inflammatory disorders and in your case from making them worse. Chapter 9 of the book is about the foods to eat to prevent inflammation.
You could read it in Google Books on the Internet as well.
