Acid Reflux Esophagus

Thelma Said:

Acid reflux?

We Answered:

well, the advertisements state that acid reflux can damage your esophagus.

If you're having pain that you feel is from your tongue, and up in your face, you need to go to a doctor to find out the cause.

Charlie Said:

Female 48 just diagnosed with Barrett Esophagus after few mos of acid reflux. Does it mean I have precancerous?

We Answered:

Barrett's esophagus is an inflammatory scarring process and can happen even without reflux symptoms. It is not exactly precancerous, but does raise your risk significantly. Follow your doctors recommendation for follow up and monitoring with the scope.

Jorge Said:

My doctor said that I may be experiencing constriction of the esophagus caused by acid reflux.?

We Answered:

Yes I have had this for over 20 yrs. There are many medications to relieve the symtoms (nexium, axid etc.) There is also surgery for the more stubborn cases. I do NOT eadvocate the surgery. Take the medication for as long as possible to avoid surgery.

Beatrice Said:

Does Acid Reflux create a warm sensation in your stomach and make your esophagus congested?

We Answered:

Acid reflux is like really bad heartburn.

What you are describing sounds like the onset of stomach flu.

Jackie Said:

If you had a hole in your esophagus from acid reflux or something of that nature, would you know? ?

We Answered:

You might not know.

Sometimes erosive esophagitis (which I think you're referring to as a hole) causes no symptoms other than hoarseness. I have known 2 people who died from esophageal cancer related to erosive esophagitis caused by acid reflux. These 2 people had only hoarseness as a symptom--no pain, no heartburn.

I have had erosive esophagitis. My only symptom was chest tightness and hoarseness.

Some people with erosive esophagitis have terrible pain, so they certainly know it.

Short answer? You might have symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, and hoarseness, but you might just think they were caused by something else.

Kay Said:

What foods and drinks should I avoid with having acid reflux and partial scarring of the esophagus?

We Answered:

My husband has the same exact issue. You should avoid acidic drinks - such as GRAPEFRUIT juice/orange juice - and i just read cranberry juice as well...You should also avoid chocolate, french fries and raw onions, also coffee.
