Acid Reflux Medicines

Eddie Said:

Could prescription severe acid reflux (GERD) medicines possibly mask the symptoms of stomach cancer?

We Answered:

I hope not, but then again any type of prescription medication has side effects with other parts of the body. Make sure you find out for sure if those medications you take causes stomach cancer.

Just keep in mind that pharmaceutical companies & doctors are not God. 8-D

Roberto Said:

Acid reflux?

We Answered:

no no .Never take it because the medication is suppose to oppress the body natural acid from the stomach; thus in order to counter balance, your stomach actually produces more acid. So stop it, silly.

Gwendolyn Said:

What medicine do you recommend for Acid Reflux?

We Answered:

The doctor will prescribe something to you that will be effective. Nexium works well or generic zantzc etc.... but they will also tell you to shed a few pounds and stay away from certain foods that cause abnormally high amounts of acid in your stomach. I used to eat antacids like candy day in and day out until I decided it was time for a change. I now eat healthy low glycemic meals, excercise a little and take my nutritionals. Guess what I rarely ever need to take an antacid or wake up in the middle of the night with that nasty burning in the bottom of my throat.

Marian Said:

which heartburn/acid reflux medicine works better for you?

We Answered:

sometimes your body can get used to the drugs. ask your doctor, you could switch over to prilolsec otc, or prevacid. ive always thought prevacid works the best but you need to see a doctor so he can prescribe it to you.

Marsha Said:

Which of these are the best acid reflux medicines?

We Answered:

These three are all in the same class of medications (proton pump inhibitors, or PPI's). Of the three I think Aciphex is the more potent, but also the most expensive. They all have similar side effects. If you're going to use a PPI, you might try prilosec first as it is available over the counter. You may also be limited in what you can get based on what your insurance company is willing to pay for. Usually they only have one or two meds from each class on their formulary. You may consider other meds such as Zantac or Prevacid that have a different mechanism. The best one is the one that works best for you. There is no clear "best" when it comes to anti-reflux meds. Many people have to try a few different ones before finding one that works well for them. Good luck!

Ernest Said:

Are there any medicines I can to take to help with my acid reflux?

We Answered:

Just continue to take the omeprazole - if that doesn't work after several months, you may want to try esmeprozole (sp?)...if that doesn't work, you may need surgical intervention.
